Amaru Zoo
Guess what I’m vlogging about today?
Amaru is a private non-profit conservation organization that was created by the Ecuadorian Ministry of the Environment through a ministerial agreement in 2002, since then the Amaru Biopark Zoo Cuenca has been evolving and manifesting itself as a leading conservation organization in the region, which enjoys credibility by virtue of its transparency. honesty, results and professionalism.
Amaru grows under an organization with clear objectives and goals that are based on ethical, environmental, social and community principles and values that contribute to creating scenarios of well-being for the human communities and wildlife that we protect daily. In each of its actions, Amaru promotes the construction of environmental commitment and respect for nature.
Where is it located? Cuenca Zoo Amaru Biopark located on the Cuenca - Azogues Highway Km 10 1/2 (entrance in front of the Hospital del Río). In the city of Cuenca - Azuay Province - Ecuador.
Take the Cuenca – Azogues Highway, at Km 10 1/2 (hospital sector of the river) look at a sign at the entrance to the Zoo on the right side. Go up a gravel road (second order) for 600 m, until you find yourself again on the right side with the entrance to the zoo parking lot.
Amaru wants to inspire people and the community to promote knowledge, protection of biodiversity, natural and cultural resources of the country, through the different facilities that he has built in his theme biopark.
Amaru inside works with an artificial climate generated by heaters, its temperature is 25 °C, so that animals such as snakes (reptiles without legs), fish, etc. adapt, being a specialized wildlife center, it has been set to the place for which the temperature is suitable for the habitat of the animals.
The most interesting thing for me was its name as I researched why it was called that: The zoo is named after the first boa that was brought to the zoo, which in the Shuar language is known as Amaru. The institution was born as an initiative of the private sector to promote research and the dissemination of the faunal wealth of the area.
